Quick Guide to Emergency AC Repair: What to Do to Keep Your Cool When the AC Goes Out

ermergency-ac-repair

It’s almost summer! If you didn’t have your heating and air conditioning system serviced, you might be looking at air conditioner repairs this summer. No one wants to live in a sweltering house, but if your AC does go out, what can you do to keep your cool?

Here’s a quick guide to emergency AC repair:

The Air Is On, But It’s Not Cool

If your AC is blowing warm air, there are two things to look at before calling for emergency repair. First, check your thermostat. An incorrect setting might be the problem. If you have a programmable thermostat, it’s possible it needs new batteries. If the thermostat seems ok, check the evaporator coil. If it’s dirty or has debris on or around it, that could prevent it from cooling the air property, which would result in warm air coming out.

The System Turns On and Off Frequently

If your air conditioner is turning on and off frequently, this will prevent your house from getting to the right temperature. It will also cause your system to use excessive amounts of energy. One possible culprit is the air filter. If the air filter is dirty, the air conditioner can’t pull in air as well as it should. As a result, the unit will short cycle frequently. If the air filter is fine, you might need to call for service.

The AC Won’t Turn On

If the AC doesn’t turn on at all, check to be sure there’s power to the unit. You could have a bad electrical connection or possibly a blown fuse. These are both things an HVAC tech would need to diagnose and repair.

You don’t want to deal with a hot home this summer. If your AC goes out, do some quick troubleshooting, and then call in the pros. For all your heating and air conditioning service and repair needs, contact our team at H.H. Hovey Heating and Cooling today.
