Why Is My AC Blowing Hot Air?

Hot Air

When was the last time you scheduled HVAC maintenance and testing? If you can’t remember, it’s been too long. And if your AC is blowing hot air instead of cool this summer, you’ll wish you’d called to schedule sooner. Here are some common reasons your AC isn’t working correctly.

Low Refrigerant

The cooling component of your air conditioner includes refrigerant. If the refrigerant is low, your HVAC system can’t cool the air that cools your home, and you’ll get warm air through the vents instead of cool air.

Compressor Malfunction

The compressor in your AC works by compressing the refrigerant to turn if from a gas to a liquid, creating a cooling process within the coils. As air passes over the coils, it cools down and circulates through your home. If the compressor is malfunctioning, the air will stay warm.

Dirty Air Filters

Improper airflow is one of the most common reasons for warm air from your AC, and one thing that can severely block airflow is a clogged filter. When the air can’t flow through the filter, the HVAC system will work overtime to compensate and provide the desired temperature to your home, leading to an overheated AC and warm air instead of cool coming through your vents.

Any of the above issues could be why your HVAC isn’t working right. If you dread the thought of your AC blowing hot air this summer, there is one simple way to prevent it – HVAC maintenance and testing. Instead of suffering in your sweltering house, contact your local HVAC professional to test, assess, and evaluate your air conditioning system to catch any of these small problems before they lead to a hot house and a miserable you.
