Improve your energy efficiency at home no matter where you are in the world.
Improve your energy efficiency to lower your bills—and your impact on the planet. This is easy enough to do while you’re at home, but what about when you’re away on business or vacation? How can you protect your home furnishings and make sure your place is comfortable on your return while also minimizing your energy use while you’re gone? Just ask H.H. Hovey Heating & Cooling, Inc.
Follow these three energy efficiency tips the next time you go away to enjoy low monthly bills once you get back:
- Use a programmable thermostat. Most homeowners today have thermostats they can set in advance, but a shocking 90 percent never learn how to work those features! Are you one of them? Take a few minutes to learn, and you could save a bundle.
- Upgrade if you have an older model. Programmable thermostats have been around for decades. Today’s units offer upgraded features, like Wi-Fi connectivity and predictive controls. If you’re still relying on a manual unit, upgrading will provide you with benefits while you’re on vacation and once you’re back home.
- Base your temperature adjustments on your travel time. Instead of turning off your heat or AC the entire time you’re gone, consider when and how long you’ll be traveling. Big changes in temperature require a lot of energy, so stick within 4 or 5 degrees of your home’s normal temperature if you’ll only be gone a few days.
