- Upgrade if you have an older model. Programmable thermostats have been around for decades. Today’s units offer upgraded features, like Wi-Fi connectivity and predictive controls. If you’re still relying on a manual unit, upgrading will provide you with benefits while you’re on vacation and once you’re back home.
- Base your temperature adjustments on your travel time. Instead of turning off your heat or AC the entire time you’re gone, consider when and how long you’ll be traveling. Big changes in temperature require a lot of energy, so stick within 4 or 5 degrees of your home’s normal temperature if you’ll only be gone a few days.
