3 Tips for Keeping Your Kitchen Cool while Cooking for Thanksgiving

thanksgiving-kitchen-cooling

How to manage heating and air conditioning during the holidays.

Heating and air conditioning help keep your house comfortable year-round. But what can you do on Thanksgiving, when the cooking is in full-force, and the kitchen is overheating? You can’t freeze out the rest of the house, but you can do a few things to keep your kitchen cool without losing yours.

Tip #1: Don’t Peek!

Keeping the oven door closed is the number one best way to keep your kitchen cool during the Thanksgiving cooking extravaganza. As much as you want to keep an eye on your feast, keeping the oven closed will help keep the house from overheating and help your food cook more evenly and on time. The oven temperature can drop by approximately 20 degrees every time the door opens! That heat ends up in your kitchen.

Tip #2: Turn Down the Heat

You don’t want to freeze your family and friends as they watch football in the living room, but you don’t want to roast the cooks in the kitchen either. You can find a balance by turning the thermostat down a degree or two. The house should stay warm, and the kitchen should stay cool.

Tip #3: Use Your Fans

Even a small fan in the kitchen can help direct heat from the cooking out to the rest of your house, balancing out the temperature. Ceiling fans can help circulate air too, helping to make your whole house comfortable.

You don’t have to lose your cool this Thanksgiving just because you’re working your magic in the kitchen. Contact our team at H.H. Hovey Heating and Cooling for more tips on using your heating and air conditioning the right way during the holidays.
