#1: Squealing
Halloween is the time for scary sounds, but they shouldn’t be coming from your furnace. If you hear squealing or squeaking, don’t ignore it. It could be that the gas burners are dirty, that the pilot light is out of whack and requires adjustment, or that there issues with the blower belt.
#2: Rattling
A rattle isn’t that uncommon when it comes to a furnace. It could be something as simple as a loose screw. However, it could be as serious as a cracked heat exchanger, which can lead to a dangerous carbon monoxide leak. Don’t ignore a rattling sound from your furnace.
#3: Banging
Sometimes HVAC banging sounds are simply from your ducts expanding and contracting when the heat turns on and off. If you hear loud banging, a more serious issue could be dirty burners. If the burners are dirty, it can delay ignition when the heat turns on. If this happens, gas can build up and cause a small explosion when the ignition lights the burner.
