How to not let your heating and air conditioning system let you down this winter.
You need your heating and air conditioning system to be fully functional, especially in the winter when it’s cold outside, and you want it warm inside. But what happens if it’s not? Here are three warning signs to be on the lookout for this winter.
Hey Now, What’s that Sound?
Are you hearing bumps in the night? Or even worse, grinding and squealing coming from your HVAC system? This is a warning sign that something is not right. There are many possible causes for unusual sounds coming from your heating system, including a failing motor, worn out blower belts, or improperly lubricated bearings and components. Don’t ignore these warning signs. Call for service before the system quits.
On. Off. On. Off.
When your heat seems to be turning on and off more frequently, we call this short-cycling or frequent cycling. It’s not cause for alarm, but it is a good clue that you need to investigate the cause. Frequent cycling can be from a clogged air filter preventing the HVAC system from properly pulling in air, or it could be from a malfunctioning thermostat sending botched signals to the HVAC unit. If you can’t find the cause, a certified HVAC technician can.
Feeling a Little Frosty
When you have your heat turned up, but your house is feeling cool, that is definitely a warning sign that your HVAC system isn’t working as it should. The cause of inconsistent temperatures could be as simple as an improperly calibrated thermostat or as complicated as a faulty blower motor.
